The University of Brighton is a sprawling university with multiple campuses located in the English city of Brighton and Hove. It was known as the Brighton Polytechnic prior to being renamed a university in 1992.
Brighton University traces its roots back to the middle of the 19th century in Brighton and the middle of the 20th centrury in Eastbourne.The university's primary education is rated Category A by OFSTED, whose honour is shared by by only five other universities. Today, the University of Brighton is home to more than 20,000 students and a staff of 2,100.

A number of great sporting facilities are located in the University of Brighton's Falmer campus. It features two full-sized gymnasiums for basketball, volleyball, and badminton; eight football and rugby pitches; six tennis courts; a dance studio; and the world-renowned Esporta Health and Racquet Club. Esporta itself has three swimming pools, a fitness suite, a beauty clinic, a sports medicine clinic, and a restaurant.
The Sallis Benney Theatre and the university's Exhibition Gallery can be found at the Grand Parade campus. Films, plays, and dance concerts are regularly held at the Sallis Benney Theatre, while priceless artworks are on display at the gallery. The Brighton Festival is held at the Grand Parade campus in May. Concerts, films, and other special events are the highlights of this festival.
The Cockcroft Sports Centre is located in Moulsecoomb campus. It features world-class sporting facilities and treatment centres like a basketball court, a fitness suite with 35 workout stations, and a rolling indoor climbing wall.

The university may be relatively young, but it has its share of distinguished alumni and alumnae like artists Alison Lapper and Michael Pinsky, fashion designers Julien Macdonald and Gresham Blake, and Peter Falconio, a backpacker who was murdered while travelling in the Australian outback in 2001.
